Update: shooting victims identified, suspect booked on murder charges
The names of the victims and suspect from Wednesday's triple shooting were released Thursday morning by Tahlequah Police Chief Nate King.
Jordan Hensley, 20, was taken into custody after multiple law enforcement agencies searched for him when three people were shot.
King said the two people killed were John and Tiffany Thompson, and the third victim, Danielle Pritchett, was treated for a gunshot wound and released from the hospital.
King said no motive has been determined as of Thursday morning.
"There was no altercation, argument, or provocation reported by witnesses," he said.
Officers were dispatched to a house on West Choctaw Street after 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 18 for reports of a shooting.
Law enforcement quickly set up a perimeter in the area, looking for Hensley. His whereabouts were unknown for a significant amount of time before he was spotted at Braum's on East Downing Street.
Hensley reportedly assaulted an off-duty officer when she identified him and he fled on foot. Officers were advised that Hensley was spotted near Cherokee Elementary.
Northeastern State University Police sent out a campus alert post via Facebook and email and advised students to stay indoors and to report any suspicious activity in the area.
The suspect was spotted on North Grand Avenue and taken into custody.
Hensley was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center on tribal charges for two counts of first-degree murder, shooting with intent to kill, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, assault and battery on a police officer, and then a warrant for knowingly concealing stolen property.
King said Hensley exercised his right to an attorney.
Tahlequah Police Department, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the District 27 District Attorneys Task Force all assisted in the search of Hensley.
The triple shooting is under investigation.
