UPDATE: Fort Gibson woman identified as driver in fatal crash

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a Fort Gibson woman was killed in the Aug. 3 single-vehicle crash at Fort Gibson Dam.

The 2023 Chevy Malibu was traveling eastbound on State Highway 251A around 4:36 p.m. when the driver, Mary M. Cole, 55, failed to negotiate a curve on the east side of Fort Gibson Dam. The vehicle departed the roadway, striking an embankment and became fully engulfed in flames. Cole was pronounced dead at the scene.

The OHP said the crash is still under investigation.
