Fire crews battle structure blaze, cause under investigation

Fire fighters with the Tahlequah Fire Department were dispatched to reports of a structure fire on East Shawnee Street shortly before 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 18.


According to a press release from the Tahlequah Fire Department, fire fighters discovered heavy flames and smoke to a portion of the structure and a shop building. Firefighters were on scene for approximatley three hours.


Occupants of the residence escaped without injury and the Red Cross was called to assist those individuals.


Fire Chief Casey Baker said he was proud of the men and women of the fire department for their work and dedication during Saturday's blaze.


"Our crews were on scene shortly after being dispatched, and they worked for nearly three hours to extinguish the fire and help those who lived in the home to retrieve some of their family belongings," Baker said in the press release. "We're thankful no one was injured, and I appreciate all of those who helped us at the scene, including police, EMS and the utility crews, who were all on scene quickly to assist."


The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
