Sheriff's Reports 9-5-24: Elderly man accused of resisting arrest

An 80-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly tried walking away from deputies when he was told he was going to jail.

On Sept. 1, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Jesse Mitchell was called to West 835 Road in reference to a violation of a protective order. Dispatch advised that Charles Hilton damaged a shop building by pushing a tree and telephone post with a tractor. The caller said there was an active protective order in place between her and Hilton. Deputies went next door to make contact with Hilton, but his wife claimed he wasn't there. She gave deputies permission to search the residence when Mitchell heard Hilton speaking with his wife outside. Hilton reportedly became physically and verbally defiant when he was told he was going to be arrested. Hilton said he wasn't going to jail and attempted to walk away. Deputies were able to arrest him but he was reportedly non-compliant. Mitchell said Hilton advised that his chest hurt and he was medically cleared by Northeastern Health System staff. Hilton was booked for violating the protective order, making threats to perform an act of violence, resisting arrest, and removing survey markers

Deputy Justin Richardson responded to North 582 Road Sept. 3 after a woman said she believed a man was knocking on her door and revving his truck engine outside her residence. Dispatch advised that there was an active protective order in place between the woman and Steven Cobb. Richardson said Cobb wasn't at the residence but he could hear the vehicle engine revving nearby. He observed Cobb's truck in the tree line. Cobb admitted he knocked on the woman's door to let her know he was there. Cobb was arrested and booked for violating the protective order.

On Aug. 31, Deputy Austin Carver was dispatched to State Highway 82 due to reports of suspicious activity wherein a vehicle was parked in a driveway for approximately 15 minutes. The passenger of the vehicle said they were heading home from one of the resorts on the river. The driver, Brian Castillo, was passed out in the vehicle and Carver said he was incoherent when he awoke. Castillo was transported to jail and booked for public intoxication.
