Sheriff's Reports 9-4-24: Woman arrested after allegedly firing firearm

A woman was arrested after deputies were called to a residence where she allegedly fired a firearm toward other structures.

On Sept. 1, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Austin Carver was dispatched to East 840 Road in reference to reports of shots fired. Dispatch advised that a woman, Courtney Horne-Geer, fired a shot inside a residence. Carver arrived to find four people standing outside. They said Horne-Geer was next door, at a shop building. Carver spotted Horne, who was walking toward him, and told her to put her hands up. She complied and was patted down for weapons. Horne-Geer explained that she and the property owner got into an argument. Horne-Geer claimed she heard a noise near the shop building and fired a shot. Carver collected the firearm and spoke with witnesses, who said Horne-Geer fired the gun while she was standing inside the door. Video footage purportedly showed Horne-Geer fire the weapon in the air, toward other residences. Footage also showed Horne-Geer push and pull the property owner several times. Horne-Geer was arrested and booked.

Deputy Carl Smith was patrolling the area of Steely Hollow Road and State Highway 10 Sept. 2 when he observed a truck with a cracked windshield and flowers and beads hanging from the review mirror. Smith followed the vehicle and could see it depart the roadway. He conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Noah Hall. Smith could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from Hall and the vehicle. He asked Hall and his passenger, Summer Leandry, if they had medical marijuana cards, they said they didn't. Hall said they smoked marijuana 15 minutes before leaving the river. Dispatch advised Hall had warrants and a valid driver's license. Smith said he was going to search the vehicle and Hall fessed up to having a container of "blunts" his friend gave him. Deputies located marijuana, seeds, a baggie that contained what appeared to be "magic mushrooms," digital scales, and a three bags labeled THC. Hall was transported to Northeastern Health System for a blood test before he was taken to jail and booked on anticipated charges of driving under the influence. Leandry was booked on anticipated charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and possession of paraphernalia.

On Aug. 31, Deputy Justin Richardson was called to Whiskey Creek Road near Chicken Creek for reports of a fight in progress. The deputy arrived to find approximately 10 people standing on the side of the road with a park ranger. A man told the deputy they were all consuming alcohol most of the day on a boat when one of the women got into a physical fight with another woman. Jo Dawn Goodman, who was reportedly not cooperative with deputies, was arrested for public intoxication and transported to jail.
