Sheriff's Reports 9-18-24: Drugs found during traffic stop

A woman was arrested for possession after a deputy noticed her driving left of center.


On Sept. 11, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Justin Richardson was patrolling the area of State Highway 82 when he observed a vehicle cross the center line while turning on to North Elm Grove Road. Richardson conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Brittney Jalaine Rooster. Dispatch advised that Rooster was clear of warrants; however, she also went by an alias of Brittney Jolaine Duran Camacho, and had a warrant. Rooster was arrested for the warrant. Richardson was given consent to search the vehicle and asked both passengers to step out. The deputy found 13.50 grams of marijuana, a bottle of vodka, four smoking devices, a marijuana grinder, a vape pen, a smoking device that contained a crystal-like substance, and a container with a crystal-like substance. Rooster advised she would take responsibility of everything found in the vehicle. She was transported to jail and booked for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, transporting an open container, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving left of center,


On Sept. 12, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Cohen was westbound on U.S. Highway 62 when he observed a vehicle driving on the shoulder of the road. The deputy followed the vehicle for approximately half a mile and could see the driver cross the center line three times and cross the outside line two times. Cohen conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Gabriel Perez Gomez. The deputy said there was an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and Gomez's person. After a records check, Gomez was asked to step out of the vehicle and Cohen noticed the man was having to "brace himself' against the vehicle when doing so. Gomez was arrested after a field sobriety test. Cohen said there was a opened beer bottle in the vehicle. Gomez was transported to jail and booked for driving under the influence and transporting an open container.


Deputy Robert Stephens was dispatched to War Eagle Resort Aug. 31 to assist another agency. Security personnel advised they needed assistance in escorting a group of people, who were reportedly argumentative and intoxicated, off the property. Stephens arrived to find Dusten Knight already detained for being noncompliant. Security advised they wanted the man trespassed from the property. Knight was arrested and booked for public intoxication.
