Sheriff's Reports 8-7-24: Suspected intoxicated woman combative with deputies, detention officers

A woman had to be restrained by deputies and at the jail after she was reportedly noncompliant during her arrest.


On Aug. 5, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Billy Jackson was dispatched to U.S. Highway 62 due to reports of a disturbance. The caller stated that an intoxicated woman was being irate. Jackson arrived to find an intoxicated Cheryl Akins lying on the ground. Family members of Akins said they were trying to take her to rehab when she became combative. Jackson said the woman was verbally combative with EMS personnel and refused treatment. The deputy gave Akins the option of leaving with family members but she refused and was advised that she was going to be arrested. Akins wouldn't comply and had to be forcibly placed in the back a patrol unit. She began kicking the windows and had to be restrained. She was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center where she was also placed in a restraint chair. Akins was booked for public intoxication and resisting arrest.


On Aug. 3, Deputy Justin Richardson was patrolling the area of State Highway 82 and Wheeler Street when he observed a vehicle operating with an activated offroad light bar. He conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver, who was identified as Angel Marcos Martinez. Richardson said he could see an open beer bottle in one of the cup holders and the passenger, Janae Smallen, claimed it belonged to her. Smallen advised that there was marijuana in the vehicle and she was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Martinez was arrested and booked for driving under suspension and transporting an open container.


Deputy Shawn Cowart was dispatched to West 907 Road Aug. 5 for a report of a domestic disturbance. A woman said Bryanna Shea struck and pushed her. A witness told deputies Shea slapped the woman. Shea was arrested and booked for domestic assault and battery.


On Aug. 4, Deputy Austin Carver was patrolling the area of State Highway 82 and 863 Road when he observed a vehicle that almost struck another deputy's patrol unit. The driver, Gregory Allen Miller, said he didn't have a driver's license and he was waiting to get it back after he paid his reinstatement fee. He also advised that the tag didn't belong to the vehicle, a Toyota 4Runner. The tag came back to an Oldsmobile and Miller was arrested. Deputies searched the vehicle and found a glass pipe with a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine in the center console. The passenger was released after deputies searched her bag and found nothing illegal. Miller was transported to jail and booked for driving under suspension, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, inattentive driving, and affixing a license plate.


Deputy Jimmie Robertson was called to State Highway 10 Aug. for reports of a domestic assault and battery incident. The victim said Phillip Jordan had been drinking whiskey and left to go "get into a fight." She said Jordan went to a local bar and returned to the residence after he was unable to fight someone. She said Jordan grabbed a juvenile's phone after he was being recorded and tried breaking the device. She said Jordan then assaulted the boy and her before he left the residence. Robertson noticed a driven path near the house and located Jordan in a vehicle. Jordan claimed he wrestled with the boy but didn't hit him. Jordan was arrested and booked for actual physical control and domestic assault and battery.
