Sheriff's Reports 8-23-24: Man admits to running over woman's foot after alleged argument over lighter

A man said he ran over a woman's foot after an argument, but she was the one who ended up going to jail for assaulting him.

On Aug. 18, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Taylor responded to East Steely Hollow Road in reference to a domestic incident wherein a woman was accused of assaulting a man. The victim said he was punched in the face by Kailey Kirk, and showed the deputy injuries to the left side of his cheekbone. He said Kirk was inside the residence. Taylor made contact with Kirk and she said she and the man got into an argument over a lighter. She accused the man of running over her foot and leaving earlier that night. She said she "popped" him in the mouth after he kept calling her names, and said he kept hitting her injured foot. The man admitted to deputies that he did run over Kirk's foot, but claimed he was trying to leave after she threatened to get a gun. Kirk was arrested for domestic assault and battery and transported to jail. Both parties are tribal members and charges will go through Cherokee Nation Tribal Court.

Deputy Jimmie Robertson was called to East Hogner Street Aug. 21 due to reports of a domestic disturbance. Robertson arrived and observed an opened window and clothing items scattered about. The deputy met with a woman who accused Joe Adair of consuming alcohol and aggressively arguing with her. She said Adair left the residence and went to go confront a family member. That family member told deputies that Adair pushed her to the ground and she injured her wrist. She said Adair left in a white SUV, that was parked on Hogner Street. Robertson made contact with Adair, who denied arguing with the two women. Robertson said there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from Adair and he was unsteady on his feet. Adair was arrested and booked for domestic abuse.

Deputy Jaxon Thomlinson was on field training with Deputy Nick Chute Aug. 22 when they were dispatched to a residence on Phillips Drive for reports of a burglary in progress. A woman said she returned to her residence and Jimmy Nguyen was under her bed. The woman said Nguyen said he gained entry to the residence with an extra key he had. Nguyen was arrested after deputies located him down the road from the residence and he was booked for first-degree burglary.
