Sheriff's Reports 7-31-24: Suspected drunken woman allegedly steals truck, crashes into tree line
A woman allegedly crashed a truck she took without permission and left her belongings inside the vehicle.
On July 14, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Justin Richardson was dispatched to Suburban Circle due to reports of a stolen vehicle. A man said Avery Mask stole his 2017 Chevrolet Silverado truck after he went to sleep. Richardson advised that deputies would be looking for the vehicle. The deputy was dispatched to U.S. Highway 62 hours later that morning due to a truck that crashed into a tree line. Richardson found two credit cards, a cell phone, and shoes belonging to Mask inside the vehicle. There were several alcoholic beverages found in and around the truck. Shortly before Richardson was called to the vehicle crash, he was dispatched to U.S. Highway 62 for a woman who was waving her arms around while walking in the roadway. Richardson found Mask lying on the ground. She admitted to consuming alcohol and said she lived with the man the truck belonged to, but she denied knowing anything about the truck being stolen. Dispatch advised that Mask had a warrant and she was transported to the hospital to be treated for injuries. Mask was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center and booked for public intoxication and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
On July 27, Deputy Dustin Tannehill responded to North 490 Road for a trespassing call wherein an individual had a firearm. The homeowner spoke with deputies through her Ring doorbell and said a woman was on her porch and holding a gun. She provided footage from her doorbell which captured the woman saying, "I have a gun in my hand, but it is not for you believe me." She said she needed some water to make it to her house. Tannehill was told the woman, Glenda Tugman-Corn, lived just east of the property. Tannehill left and located the woman nearby. Tugman-Corn said she had been walking in the area but denied having a firearm. The deputy showed her the video footage that purportedly showed her holding the weapon and she claimed it was in her residence. Tugman-Corn, a convicted felon, was arrested and booked for felon in possession of a firearm.
Deputy Richardson was patrolling the area of Lost City Road July 28 when he observed a truck traveling left of center. He conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver, Joe Don Howard. Dispatch advised that Howard had a warrant and Richardson arrested him. The deputy searched the vehicle and found a jar with a "consumable" amount of Moonshine. Howard was booked for the warrant and transporting an open container.
