Sheriff's Reports 7-12-24: Arrestee accused of hurling insults at deputy, hospital staff

A combative woman repeatedly insulted law enforcement and hospital staff when she was arrested after causing a disturbance.

On July 5, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Joseph Burkett was dispatched to reports of a disturbance at Cherokee Landing. The deputy met with Keisha Marie Piazza, who was accused of being intoxicated and causing a disturbance with other campers. Burkett advised Piazza that she would be arrested for public intoxication and her vehicle would be towed. The woman was told she would need to put her belongings from her campsite in her vehicle, including her pit bull. Burkett said he opened the door to his vehicle and Piazza jumped out and tried to take off toward Lake Tenkiller, but he grabbed her and placed her in handcuffs. The deputy placed her belongings in her vehicle but said the dog was acting aggressive toward him. He asked Piazza if she could put the dog in her vehicle and she advised she would. When putting the dog in her vehicle, Piazza also got in the vehicle and locked the doors. Burkett, who had the keys, unlocked the car and tried grabbing the woman but she moved to the front seat and jerked away from the deputy. Piazza resisted and was taken to the ground and arrested. Burkett said Piazza kept banging her head on the window of his police unit and repeatedly cursed at him. She was being transported to jail when she allegedly kept asking Burkett to drop her off because she needed to be with her dog. Burkett noticed the woman was bleeding from a previous injury to her nose and transported her to Northeastern Health System to get checked out. He said Piazza called one of the nurses a "dumb broad" when she was asked to quit yelling and cussing in the hospital. She also allegedly called one of the doctors a "fat f*ck." Piazza was taken back to the jail and booked.

Deputy Jimmy Tannehill responded to Raylyn Drive July 7 due to threats being made by a woman who was violating a protective order. The victim said Carmen Campos made a post on Facebook that purportedly stated she was coming for the woman. The woman said Campos has repeatedly threatened her and her family and she was scared Campos was going to "do something to them." According to Tannehill, Campos has said she carries a firearm and isn't afraid to use it. Tannehill found out Campos was at an apartment on Seneca Street and arrested her.

On July 4, Deputy Austin Carver was patrolling the area of Coffee Hollow Road when a vehicle turned onto U.S. Highway 62 in the furthest lane. Tannehill said he had to hit his brakes to avoid crashing into the vehicle. He conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver, Bernebe Miranda, who advised he didn't have insurance on the vehicle. Miranda was arrested for driving under suspension.

Deputy Carver was dispatched to North 410 Road July 7 for reports of a physical domestic. The victim accused Stephany Rorex of hitting him and he showed deputies video footage of the incident. Rorex was arrested and booked for domestic assault and battery.

On July 7, Deputy Justin Richardson was patrolling the area of South Nalley Road when he observed a truck that had a malfunctioning third brake light, and a man who was sitting on trash bags in the bed of the truck. The driver, Patrick James, provided his driver's license to Richardson, but didn't have proof of insurance. Dispatch advised that James and his passenger were clear of warrants, but the vehicle's insurance was unconfirmed. Richardson said the vehicle would be impounded and James would be cited for defective equipment and not having insurance. Lt. Tanner Hendley searched the vehicle and located a crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. James was arrested and booked for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, defective equipment, and failure to maintain insurance.
