Sheriff's Reports 4-4-24: Two arrested for drug trafficking, other drug offenses
Two people were arrested after deputies found 297 grams of meth and 142 grams of marijuana.
On April 2, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Nick Chute was in the area of North Elm Grove Road and State Highway 82 when he observed a yellow Ford Escape driving in the middle of the road. Chute initiated a traffic stop but the driver of the vehicle refused to pull over and reportedly attempted to brake-check Chute. The vehicle entered a field on East Red Fuller Road and the driver fled on foot while the passengers were ordered out of the vehicle. April Whyne Hall and Trae Allen Cordell were detained. Dispatch advised both individuals had warrants. Deputies searched the vehicle and found two bags that contained a white crystal-like substance, and opened bottle of whiskey, a bag of marijuana, syringes, paraphernalia, and digital scales. A bag containing a white crystal-like substance and paraphernalia was found in the direction the driver ran from deputies. The 297 grams of the crystal-like substance tested positive for methamphetamine and the marijuana weighed 142 grams. A phone belonging to Hall and three phones that belonged to Cordell, along with $1,350 were seized. Hall was booked for possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, transporting an open container, possession of marijuana, and trafficking of methamphetamine. Cordell was booked for possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute after former conviction of a felony, possession of marijuana after former conviction of a felony, possession of drug proceeds after former conviction of a felony, trafficking methamphetamine after former conviction of a felony, and his warrants. A warrant will be requested for the driver.
Deputy Chute was driving behind a vehicle in the area of Rice Road and Jones Road April 4 when he was informed that the tag was expired. The vehicle pulled into a driveway and Chute made contact with the driver, Constance Tyer, and passenger, Carlis Elkins. Sgt. Ryan Patton and his K-9 partner performed an air sniff of the vehicle and was alerted. Chute said a pouch that contained a glass smoking device and methamphetamine was found under the hood. Tyer and Elkins denied ownership of the bag and were transported to jail. Tyer was booked for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and improper display of tag. Elkins was booked for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On April 1, Deputy Austin Carver was dispatched to Lost City Road for an assault and battery in progress report. Dispatch advised that a man had a knife and threatened a woman. The victim accused Bryan Hooper of threatening her with the knife and cut her finger. Carver left the residence and was informed that Hooper was back and trying to gain entry. The victim said Hooper took off again but she wasn't sure where he went. Hooper was found inside a vehicle and had to be removed from the vehicle. Hooper was transported to jail and booked.
