Two men were arrested after they accused one another of discharging firearms.
On March 1, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Cohen was dispatched to North 582 Road for reports of shots fired. A woman told the deputy that Steven Cobb was trespassing. Kenneth Simmions said Cobb fired three shots from a shotgun. Photos and video footage purportedly showed the barrell of a firearm. The property owner pointed toward a 4-wheeler on a hill that Cobb was supposedly on. Cohen asked for additional deputies to arrive and decided to set up a preimeter. The game warden made contact with Cobb near the road and according to Cohen, he admitted to shooting the firearm in the air. A woman with Cobb had documents and showed Cohen the property marking. Cohen went back to the other woman and showed her the documents. She claimed she had the property surveyed five years ago and the documents he was showing her weren't correct. Cobb said he was operating the 4-wheeler on his property when Simmions said he was trespassing, and fired a rifle three times. Cobb said he shot one time in the air. Cobb was arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a sawed-off shotgun. Simmions said he informed Cobb he was trespassing and heard Cobb fire a shot. Simmions said he then fired three warning shots into a tree line, in an attempt to deter Cobb. Simmions was arrested and booked for reckless discharge of a firearm.
Deputy Jimmie Robertson responded to South Teehee Drive Feb. 28 for a report of threats that were made between two neighbors. A woman said Geroge Thomas Conrad knocked on her door and confronted her about her calling the landlord to complain about his trash causing cockroaches to come into her apartment. She said the man wouldn't allow her to get back into her apartment and made a threat of bodily harm to her. Robertson made contact with Conrad, who shoved the deputy. Conrad reportedly kicked Robertson in the chest two times as the two were struggling on the ground. Conrad was eventually arrested and booked for simple assault, obstructing a police officer, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a police officer.
On Feb. 28, Deputy Jaxon Thomlinson was on a traffic stop on State Highway 10 when he noticed a vehicle drifting toward him while passing. He caught up to the vehicle and could see the driver fail to maintain its lane and not signal while in the left lane. Thomlinson conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver, Chadd Ashley Matchett. There was an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and Matchett informed Thomlinson that he was defecating himself. Deputy Jeremy Woodstock could see an open can of alcohol in the vehicle and Matchett denied consuming anything the drink that night. He was told to step out of the vehicle and Matchett allegedly said he was still defecating himself. Matchett was arrested after a field sobriety test and booked for driving under the influence, carrying a weapon under the influence, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, transporting an open container.
These are arrests, not convictions.
