Sheriff's Reports 2-5-25: Pair arrested after drugs, guns found during traffic stop
A man and a woman were arrested after deputies discovered two firearms and meth during a traffic stop.
On Jan. 31, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Seth Morgan was on patrol in the area of Park Hill Road when he observed a vehicle with a defecitve brake light. The tag returned to a Jeep and Morgan said the vehicle he observed was a Pontiac. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with driver, David Dewey McDaniel. Dispatch advsied that McDaniel's driver's license was suspended and he was clear of warrants. The passenger, Staci J. Huntley, was also clear of warrants. McDaniel was detained and Morgan said the vehicle was going to be impounded due to not having a proper license plate and no insurance. Deputies searched the vehicle and found marijuana and a syringe that contained methamphetamine. Huntley was then detained and deputies continued to search the vehicle. A .223 rifle and .22 revolver were located in the trunk of the vehicle. McDaniel was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center and booked for possession of a firearm while being a convicted felon, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, no insurance, no security verification, and affixing a license plate. Huntley was booked for possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
Deputy Jimmie Robertson was dispatched to Tarkington Street Jan. 29 due to an alleged assault between two women. The victim accused Laura Herrin of slamming her head on the floor and on a desk before a man pulled Herrin off her. Herrin told deputies the victim was demanding that she leave and became "intimidating." She admitted to being physical with the woman and Herrin was arrested for assault and battery.
On Feb. 2, Deputy Jeremy Woodstock was patrolling the area of South Muskogee Avenue when he observed a vehicle make an unsafe lane change, almost striking his patrol unit. The driver, who was identified as Steven Lingelbach, allegedly claimed he was trying to hurry home because his children were sick. Woodstock noticed an orange pen shell with white residue in it and Lingelbach allegedly said he used it to ingest Gabapentin because he can't swallow pills. Woodstock searched the vehicle and found a pill bottle that contained one Hydrochloride pill and 18 Gabapentin pills. The deputy said the prescription label on the bottle had Lingelbach's name on it, but Hydrochloride nor Gabapentin were the medication prescribed on the label. Lingelbach was arrested and booked for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unsafe lane change.
Deputy Dylan Carder responded to West 720 Road Jan. 28 for reports of a suspicous person. The caller advised there was an unknown woman in her grandmother's house. The homeowner said she didn't was to press charges as she wanted to get the woman help. Carder enter the residence and made contact with Josie Cleveland, who appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic. The residents in the home found a backpack and trash bag inside a shed where they believed Cleveland was squatting in overnight. Cleveland took ownership of the bags when asked if those belonged to her. Carder searched Cleveland's pockets and found a pipe with what appared to be a white, crystal-like substance in it. He also found a small piece of plastic that contained a crystal-like substance. Cleveland was arrested and booked for public intoxication, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
These are arrests, not convictions.
