Sheriff's Reports 12-11-24: Man hospitalized after alleged assault
A man was arrested after he was accused of assaulting and injuring another man.
On Dec. 5, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Billy Jackson was dispatched to South Keeler Drive Dec. 5 due to reports of a burglary. The caller stated they came home to find a known man inside his kitchen, cooking. The homeowner said the man ran out of the house and "fell off" the back porch. Deputy Jimmie Robertson went to a residence where the man supposedly ran to and spoke with the homeowner, who said the man showed up and appeared to have been assaulted. The homeowner said they took the man to the emergency room. Jackson went to the emergency room where the man was lying on a hospital bed, wearing a neck brace. The deputy said the man had lumps on his forehead and on the side of his head. He also had an injury to his mouth and red marks along his ribs. The man said he was putting away groceries when a woman and Christopher Killsnight returned to the residence. He accused Killsnight of saying he was going to kill him before Killsnight struck him with a "small bat." The man said Killsnight choked him and he was able to get away and run to a nearby residence. Killsnight was arrested and booked for aggravated assault and battery, threats to perform acts of violence, and false reporting of a crime.
Deputy Austin Carver was finishing up on a traffic stop in the area of State Highway 51 and South 580 Road Dec. 7 when he observed a vehicle with a defective headlight. Carver advised another deputy, who wasn't able to find the vehicle. Carver drove the area and spotted the vehicle, and went to pull the driver over. The driver, Jonathan Ross Lyman, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Carver found Lyman lying on the ground with material on top of him. Lyman said he fled because he was scared and he had warrants. The man was taken into custody and Carver began searching for potential items Lyman could have discarded as he was running from deputies. There was a pipe on the ground near the driver's side door and a homemade smoking device close to where Lyman was found hiding. Deputies also found a large amount of cash in the vehicle. Deputy Jaxon Thomlinson advised he found a rolled up $5 bill approximately five feet from where Lyman was hiding and it contained a crystal rock-like substance. Lyman was transported to jail and booked for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, defective equipment, expired tag, eluding, and driving under suspension.
On Dec. 7, Deputy Thomlinson was patrolling the area of State Highway 82 and Park Hill Road when he observed a vehicle speeding 70 mph in a marked 55-mph zone. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver, who was identified as Eyon Pettit. Thomlinson could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and Pettit said there was some in a container. Pettit also advised there was a firearm in the center console. Thomlinson searched the vehicle and located baggies of a crystal-like substance. Pettit was transported to jail and booked for possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and speeding.
These are arrests, not convictions.
