Sheriff's Reports 10-22-24: Property owner allegedly shot toward utility worker

A utility worker escaped injury after a man allegedly shot toward him after being on his property.

On Oct. 1, Cherokee County Sheriff's Lt. Tanner Hendley was dispatched to West Killabrew Road due to reports of threats that were made. A man, who said he worked for a utility company, said he was turning his vehicle around in a driveway when a man met him with a gun and shot at him. The man said he was off the roadway and near a mailbox when Carl Shade Jr. allegedly shot at him. Deputies met with Shade and ordered him to drop his handgun. The man complied after being told to do so at least four times. Shade was asked about what happened and he reportedly said he wanted "them people" off his property. Deputies explained to Shade that he couldn't recklessly discharge his firearm and he allegedly said he could if someone came onto his property. Shade supposedly said he thought the man was stealing his belongings and taking it to a residence across the street. A witness to the incident said Shade fired the weapon two times toward the utility worker. Shade was arrested and booked on charges that included willfully pointing a firearm, carrying a weapon while under the influence of alcohol, and reckless conduct while having any weapon.

On Oct. 12, Deputy Carl Smith was patrolling the Moody area when he noticed a shattered windshield on a traveling van. Smith conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver, who said he was Anthony Adair and didn't have identification on him. The passenger also said he had no identification and said his name was Jose Sam. Smith asked if there were drugs in the vehicle since he could smell the odor of marijuana, and both men said there wasn't before Sam picked up a handful of a green leafy substance and said that was all they had. Smith was at his patrol vehicle when he heard deputies say Sam was running. Deputies gave chase and Sam was eventually caught and placed in handcuffs. Sam admitted to giving deputies a false name and said his name was Trenton Sam. Adair also gave deputies a false name and his name was Marcus Adair. Smith searched the vehicle and located a handgun and what appeared to be marijuana. Adair was booked for operating a motor vehicle without being licensed, possession of marijuana, false personation, defective equipment, possession of a firearm while under intoxicants, and a warrant. Sam was booked for possession of marijuana, obstruction, possession of a firearm while under intoxicants, and false personation.

On Oct. 2, Deputy Nick Chute was dispatched to a residence on South 610 Road in reference to a trespassing call wherein a woman was accused of causing a disturbance. Chute met with the homeowner, who said Samantha Garris was inside and intoxicated. Deputies made contact with Garris, who they said was uncooperative and refused to leave the residence. The homeowner was advised he would need to file for an eviction and he agreed he would the following day. Deputies were about to leave the residence when a juvenile reportedly ran outside and accused Garris of slapping him in the face. Deputies entered the residence and told Garris to stand up but she refused and allegedly resisted arrest. Garris was transported to jail and booked for assault and battery on a minor and resisting arrest.

Deputies responded to South Black Valley Road Oct. 8 for the second time after a woman said she was assaulted. Deputy Robert Stephens said deputies were called to the residence earlier for a 911 hang up call. Stephens met with the victim, who had injuries consistent with being assaulted. Caleb Parsons was detained and was accused of choking the woman and assaulting her with a baseball bat. Parsons allegedly claimed he was the one who was assaulted with a baseball bat; however, Stephens said the only visible injury he could see was what appeared to be a fingernail scratch on Parsons' back. Parsons was booked for domestic assault and battery great bodily harm/strangulation.

Deputy Justin Richardson was patrolling in the area of East Downing Street Oct. 5 when he observed a vehicle accelerate at a high rate of speed, causing it to fishtail. The deputy pulled the vehicle over and met with the driver, who was identified as Tristan Carter. Carter advised that his driver's license was suspended. Carter was arrested and booked for driving under suspension and reckless driving.

These are arrests, not convictions.
