Sheriff: no shooting or homicide in Moodys, despite reports

Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence on Highway 82C late Sunday evening after a man called 911 and said four of his family members were "murdered."

Deputies made entry to the residence and determined no one was deceased.

"We got up there and we made contact with [the caller]. He took us to the house and there were no bodies in the house, there were no bodies in the outbuildings," Sheriff Jason Chennault said.

The man who called authorities admitted to having a "mental episode" and was arrested for the misuse of 911 or emergency call system.

Several people contacted Tahlequah News late Monday morning, asking about a shooting and/or homicide in Moodys. Chennault stated that wasn't the case.

"We did make contact with his family and they are alive and well," Chennault said.
