Police Reports 8-5-24: Minor blames cat for cutting mother, tries biting officers

A juvenile allegedly blamed a cat for injuries to his mother after he brandished a knife and swung it at her.

On July 30, Tahlequah Police Sgt. Lane Cobb was dispatched to Jeffery Street for a disturbance wherein a minor was accused of assaulting his mother with a knife. The victim told officers that her son became angry when she wouldn't take him to the pet store. She said she set off her car alarm in hopes that someone would call the police. She said the boy brandished a pocket knife and swung it at her. She said he got the keys from her and turned the car alarm off, cutting her arm. The woman was able to get the knife and keys from her son. Cobb announced himself and found the boy under a bed. The boy said nothing happened and claimed a cat was to blame for his mothers injury. Cobb asked the boy if he cut his mom with the set of keys and he said he did. The Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs was contacted and Cobb advised that the boy would be taken into custody. The boy reportedly became aggressive and threw himself on the ground, trying to bite officers. Lt. Bryan Qualls informed Cobb that the mother said her son was autistic and the OJA stated they were no longer going to place him anywhere. The mother said he would stay at a friend's house. Cobb advised that the report would be sent to the OJA with the charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon against the boy.

On July 28, Sgt. Mitchell Sellers was patrolling the area of South Muskogee Avenue when he observed a vehicle and ran the license plate number. The officer discovered the vehicle was reported stolen out of Sulphur and he conducted a traffic stop. He advised the driver, Jacob Reasor, to step out of the vehicle and ordered him to put his hands up. Reasor complied and was detained. Sellers patted the man down and located what appeared to be methamphetamine and a broken plastic pen in his pocket. Reasor was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center and booked for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lt. Matt Frits was dispatched to Twin Cities Ready Mix July 29 for a report of an assault between two men. Dispatch advised that a man said he was assaulted by another employee. Frits spoke with the victim, who said George Baez-Mesa became upset over his company truck being dirty after the victim drove it July 25. He said Baez-Mesa pushed him and struck him in the face multiple times. Frits said video footage purportedly showed Baez-Mesa assaulting the victim before the two men walked out of camera view. Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office made contact with Baez-Mesa's girlfriend, who claimed he was looking for a new job in Muskogee. Baez-Mesa met with Frits at the Tahlequah Police Department to give his account of what happened. He claimed it was the victim who became physical and he was defending himself. Baez-Mesa was transported to jail and booked for assault and battery.
