Police Reports 7-18-24: Naked, intoxicated pair found on golf course

A naked man and a topless woman were arrested after officers were called to a golf course.

On July 17, Tahlequah Police Officer Stefon Herd was dispatched to the Cherokee Springs Golf Course due to suspicious activity. Dispatch advised that a naked man and woman were sitting in the grass on the golf course. Herd arrived to find a naked Joseph Hernandez and a topless Stephanie Smith. They admitted to consuming alcohol and both were transported to jail and booked for public intoxication and outraging public decency.

Officer Bruce Gower was patrolling the area of Seminary Avenue and North Street July 7 when he observed a vehicle and ran the license plate. The plate returned as stolen and Gower initiated a traffic stop, but the driver, Jimmy Sequichie, accelerated the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. Sequichie was reportedly driving recklessly through the campus of Northeastern State University and eventually damaged a tire after driving over a curb. The driver ran several stop signs before coming to stop on Coy Avenue, which was a dead end. Sequichie fled on foot and ran toward brush, at which time Gower drew his Taser and ordered him to stop. Gower lost visual of the man and he was not located. The passenger was detained as she allegedly tried to flee on foot; however, she was released. A few hours later, officers were notified that Sequichie was northbound on Vinita Avenue. He was located near an apartment complex and taken into custody. Sequichie, who was on supervised probation for a 3-year suspended sentence, was booked for eluding a police officer, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, driving while suspended, no insurance, taxes due state, and possession of stolen property.

On July 7, Officer Zach Adams responded to Dollar General on Reasor Street for reports of a shoplifting suspect who left the store carrying a puppy. Adams located the man, Teddy Thompson, sitting on a sidewalk near Best Western. Thompson and Adams returned to the store when Thompson allegedly gave the officer a fake name. Thompson attempted to pull away from the officer as Adams said he was going to pat him down for weapons. The man, who was still holding the dog, was taken to the ground, but the officer said the puppy was uninjured. Thompson was initially arrested for obstruction and false impersonation to avoid prosecution. He was place in the back of a police unit and was about to be transported to jail when he slipped his handcuffs and tried escaping custody. Officer Austin Hughart and Thompson struggled with one another until Adams arrived and the man was taken into custody a second time. Thompson was booked for trespassing, larceny of merchandise from a retailer, obstructing an officer, false impersonation to avoid prosecution, and resisting arrest. The puppy was turned over to the Tahlequah Animal Shelter.
