Police Reports 3-29-23: woman busted for drug trafficking

A local woman was arrested after officers found 3.2 grams of fentanyl in her purse.

On March 25, Tahlequah Police Officer Bo Smith responded to Charlie’s Chicken for a report of an intoxicated woman. Dispatch advised that the woman, who was identified as Brittany Childs, appeared to be asleep on the ground, next to the dumpsters. Smith found Childs dancing and singing. Childs was reportedly acting “jittery” and standing near a pipe that could be used to smoke methamphetamine. Smith asked Childs when she last used drugs and she admitted to smoking “some” earlier that day. She was arrested and Smith searched her and her purse when he found a baggie of fentanyl. He found more baggies that were empty and a glass pipe that had a burnt residue in it. Childs was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center and booked for public intoxication, possession of drug paraphernalia, and trafficking illegal drugs.

Officer Bruce Gower was dispatched to W.W. Hastings Hospital in regard to a man who was fighting with hospital security. A security officer said Stephen Duncan was walking toward EZ Mart and he was intoxicated. Gower located Duncan in the store parking lot. Duncan appeared upset and claimed the hospital stole his money and medication. Officer Dylan Harman advised Duncan was trespassed from Rodeway Inn earlier when he caused a disturbance with EMS personnel. Duncan was arrested and booked on tribal charges for public intoxication.

On March 24, Officer Caleb Murray was called to Love’s Country Store in reference to a man who stole alcohol. The store clerk showed the officer video footage of David Smelcer stealing three Strawberita beverages. Murray found Smelcer consuming the alcohol at Norris Park. Smelcer appeared intoxicated and he was arrested for petit larceny and public drunkenness.
