OHP: Cookson resident identified as man who fell into Lake Tenkiller

An area man died over the weekend after he lost his footing and fell down a cliff into Lake Tenkiller.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Troy Childress, 58, was driving a golf cart late Sunday evening when the vehicle became stuck.

"[Childress] got off the golf cart and laid on the ground to help the witness get the golf cart unstuck," the OHP report stated. "When the witness moved the golf cart, [Childress] went to stand up, fell, rolled from a 30-foot cliff and into Lake Tenkiller."

First responders were dispatched to the area and Childress was eventually located under the water.

According to the report, the cause of the incident is under investigation.
