BREAKING: Police investigate second homicide this week
Tahlequah Assistant Police Chief Dexter Scott confirmed that a second homicide has occurred within the city limits in less than a week.
Officers were dispatched to reports of a stabbing at an apartment complex on McSpadden Court just before 10 p.m. Friday evening.
"When officers arrived, they found a male subject identified as Charlie Wayne Lowrey. CPR was performed and the victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died from what we believe is his injuries," Scott said.
Witnesses identified the suspect as Colby Lin Deerinwater, who officers located a short time later and Scott said that individual had two knives in his possession.
"The two were at the apartment together and they had reportedly gotten into a confrontation over some statements that were made," Scott said.
Deerinwater was transported to Tahlequah City Jail where he was booked on tribal charges for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, public intoxication, and first-degree murder.
On July 1, officers were dispatched to a residence on West Fox Street just before 9:30 p.m. where they found two people inside, one was deceased and the other was taken into custody. That victim was identified as 64-year-old Robin Whisenhunt and Scott said the homicide is under investigation.
The Cherokee Nation Marshal Service and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol assisted TPD with Friday's homicide.
