Hopkins seeks to represent Oklahoma’s 2nd Congressional District

Ronnie Hopkins has filed to represent Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District to the U.S. House for the upcoming election.

Hopkins, an independent, said he's a God-fearing American who loves his family and cares about the state of Oklahoma.

"I am an independent candidate for U.S. Congress. The Democrat and Republican parties control their candidates somewhat by party rules. As an independent, I have no party controllers telling me what to say or do and how to vote on issues," he said.

Hopkins said many freedoms and liberties are being taken away and very few people are saying anything about it.

"I myself stand for freedom and liberty because freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint," he said. "Liberty is the state of being free within a society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political view."

He added that when the government begins telling people what to eat, what to buy, taking one's property to benefit others better, judges silencing the voice of the people - "we are then losing the freedoms and liberties that so many have fought and died for."

Hopkins said he supports biblical principles, the Constitution of the United States, truth over compromise, principle over parties, cutting foreign aid, the American people over lobbyists and special interests, veterans and the right to bear arms, and turning Social Security into a real trust fund, which would make a person the owner of their own trust fund account.

"You could retire at age 60 if you choose. You could leave your trust fund account to anyone you choose when you die. You would not have to pay Social Security tax anymore. You could become a millionaire by age 65," he said.
