Fourteen-year-old student identified as GA school shooter

GEORGIA: Authorities say a 14-year-old student immediately surrendered after a school resource officer encountered him during a shooting at a high school that left four dead and nine injured.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said authorities were dispatched to the Apalachee High School in Barrow County, Georgia Wednesday morning after reports of an active shooter. Those killed were two students and two teachers.

The shooter, identified as Colt Gray, was taken into custody and authorities say he is speaking with investigators. GBI Director Chris Hosey said Gray is charged with murder and will be tried as an adult.

During a press conference, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said the investigation will take multiple days and that hate will not prevail in his county.

"I want that to be very clear and known. Love will prevail over what happened today, I assure you of that," Smith said.

President Joe Biden issued a statement Wednesday afternoon, saying his administration is working with officials at the federal, state, and local level.

"What should have been a joyous back-to-school season in Winder, Georgia, has now turned into another horrific reminder of how gun violence continues to tear our communities apart. Students across the country are learning how to duck and cover instead of how to read and write. We cannot continue to accept this as normal," Biden said in the statement.

The names of the victims have not been released by officials and a motive hasn't been disclosed.
