Commissioners renew yearly contracts, resolutions
The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners renewed several yearly contacts and resolutions during a July 1 meeting.
District 1 Commissioner and Chair Bobby Whitewater's request for approval of matching Cherokee Nation funds to improve East Cobbs Corner Road, East 745 Road, South 579 Road, East 751 Road, East 572 Road, East 757 Road, South 573 Road, and South 580 Road and/or purchase road improvement equipment was granted. District 1 will match Cherokee Nation funds in the amount of $71,864.
The board gave its nod to a resolution that would approve a resolution for approval of recognition awards for employees for the fiscal year 2024-2025.
"This is awards we started last year for our employees, just not to exceed $150 for boots, new plaques, shirts, and then it's $500 to the actual employee," Whitewater said.
Sheriff Jason Chennault's request for permission for Cherokee County Building Manager T.J. Girdner to solicit bids to replace one of five air conditioning units at the sheriff's office was approved.
"I think they're all matching units so maybe we can replace one and use them for parts for the other ones until we can get them all [fixed], and they're smaller so I'm thinking they're going to be under the limit," Girdner said.
Girdner was also given permission to find wording in metal letters to attach to the southeast corner of the sheriff's office.
A resolution to authorize Cherokee County to receive $114,872 from the U.S. Department of Interior, which will be appropriated to school districts involved, was approved.
All claims, purchase orders, blanket purchase orders, appropriations, and transfers were approved.
