Sheriff: Elderly man dead from gunshot wound, not 4-year-old child

Cherokee County Sheriff Jason Chennault confirmed that an elderly man died Tuesday morning from a gunshot wound to the head.

Deputies responded to a residence at the south end of Cherokee County and initial reports on the police scanner indicated it was a 4-year-old who had the shotgun wound; however, the responding deputy said it was a 94-year-old.

The Medical Examiner and investigators are en route to assist deputies. Chennault said it hasn't been determined if the shooting was accidental or intentional.
